These brown jeans are by Compagnie Internationale Express and the gold toned vest by Reba. The white jacket reminds me of something a person in a Salvation Army band might wear--I love the stand-up collar. The booties are by Soft. (all thrifted)
I've searched for green jeans all summer and recently snagged a pair at Savers Labor Day holiday sale. Imagine by surprise when I got them home and realized that they were honest-to-goodness skinnies. The distance from my belly-button to the top of the waist band is a full 5 inches. Yikes! I had intended to save these for my "green" month in October, but decided to snap photos on Sunday. DH was terribly excited to shoot the photos...and tells me that they are now his favorite pair of jeans. I agreed to wear them around the house and then had to make an evening dash to the grocery for a gallon of milk. It was amazing to guage the reactions of my fellow shoppers and the help. My cashier, who is usually so friendly, was decidely aloof, while the sacker was suddenly very friendly.

Still, I can't help thinking that when women my age begin to wear bright green skinnies, the day of both skinnies and bright jeans must be numbered.
While these jeans were loads of fun to wear, they shall remain "at home" wear. I'm not willing to reveal a plumber's crack or the thong underwear that used to jut out of backside of such jeans and drive returning male students bonkers with distraction in class. You'll have to imagine the imaginary tattoo on my tail bone.
Sassy! You've got a figure to rock those jeans, never mind your "certain age"!
ReplyDeleteI had fully intended to add coloured jeans or cords to my fall wardrobe, but ended up compromising with a cognac pair, quite similar in colour to those in your top photos. Mine are skinny and I love them, but I still think about the burgundy ones I left behind, and the mustard, and the rusty orange. . .
I'm so jealous of your green jeans, you have no idea!
ReplyDeleteI love the top you're wearing with your brown jeans. It looks really steam punk to me without looking like a costume. Very nice.
Chic clothes. Your blog is getting better and better!
ReplyDeleteBrown jeans, vest, and jacket - so very chic. And the green jeans fit you perfectly. You have inspired me to take an unexplored look at 'jeans of color.'
ReplyDeleteTerri - I love both looks, but I must say, those green jeans are made for you. So fashionable, happy and ageless. Not too late to post them over at Visible Monday if you want to - I extended the posting time : >
ReplyDeleteYou look great in these! I love the third picture with the brown pants and the jacket!! I feel like an idiot that I did not think of brown...I was thinking red, green, etc. and thought I have no colored pants so I can't participate!...Thanks for making me think deeper next time.
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your question about my friend....NO, she did not and could not purchase the $2500 Prada!! It was a JUST FOR FUN try-on session!
You crack me up AND you pull off skinny jeans amazingly - wow wow wow. I love the first look, bet you'll be the only EBEW gal with brown colored pants. Sadly I discovered I don't own any colored pants and I'm on a shopping ban this month...!
ReplyDeleteYou look AMAZING in those green jeans. I can understand the issues with the low rise, so maybe you can find a pair of skinnies with a slightly higher rise so you can show off your fabulous rear outside the house. :)
ReplyDeleteHa! That's one hell of a profile, missy! I love your sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteSwit swoo :) Those green jeans are so much fun...I love them. I have yet to dabble in the current colourful jeans trend but your lovely pics are certainly spurring me on.
ReplyDeleteLook at you Terri, sexay! I think you should wear the green jeans out. They're too sassy to stay home and behave.
ReplyDeleteThe tailored vest is very nice. That whole brown outfit with the booties is very appealing.
Hi Terri, Pants look good on you - very youthfull looking you are! the pics are great!
ReplyDeleteThanks for leaving comments on my blog
Ariane xxxxxxx
Of the two outfits, by far the green jeans and the black T is the winner. Wowchy, how great you look in them!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, Terri, both outfits are AMAZING. The brown jeans are very tailored and equestrian, while the green are just plain fun. Fantastic.
ReplyDeleteYou look great in both pair of jeans! Now I'm coveting some in a brown/cognac color. Today I broke out my Talbot's ankle cords in the "Vixen" (rust) color and have been getting compliments.
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing in both pairs but it seems such a shame to confine those glorious green ones to the house. You look fabulous. x
ReplyDeleteI love the look but I also agree colored jeans are for the younger crowd. But it's worth you gave it a try.I've done that, too and although the result was not bad It's not me.
ReplyDeleteBoth creative outfits are totally adorbs. What if the green jeans went out into the world under a longer black or denim top of some kind? It seems such a shame to keep such a vibrant shade indoors!
ReplyDeleteSuch fabulous garments! That white jacket is absolutely something I'd love to find when thrifting--having grown up in the 80s, I find it so soothing to look at! LOL. And yay for skinnies! I hope "around the house" means often.
ReplyDeleteomg, you are totally making me jealous with those green jeans!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you seriously don't know how long i've been searching for green jeans to wear with all my leopards!! FABULOUS. they are amazing on you.

These are absolutely AWESOME pictures -- I don't know which look I like better -- the green skinnies or the brown with the vest. Wow!
ReplyDeleteYou'll have the personal satisfaction of knowing that you look pretty darn good in those green jeans.
ReplyDeleteHow come the band jacket didn't come out this summer with a vibrantly patterned skirt?
Those green jeans are amazing and I coveted them as soon as they appeared on my screen. You look wonderful in them!
ReplyDeleteOh, too funny about the people at the grocery store! And some people say what we put on our bodies isn't perceived by others. Hokum. Regardless, you are ROCKING those pants (both green and brown), love it Terri.
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit with the white jacket buttoned up! Its so fun and chic, go you lady!! And Yay for the green ones!

Oh, the green jeans are fun. And they fit you amazingly.
ReplyDeleteI really like the outfit with the brown jeans though - that jacket is brilliant.
Well I think the green jeans look amazing on you--I don't think you should rule them out because of your age. Only if it's a comfort issue, which I totally understand. My red cords I wore for EBEW are quite tight, and they were a bad idea to wear for a big Sunday supper!
ReplyDeleteThose green jeans are incredible! Looks fab!
ReplyDeleteWhat?!? You don't want your students to see your thong?!?
ReplyDeleteWowser! You look good in the green jeans!
ReplyDeleteI really like the browns outfit though. I am amazed every single time you have an amazing outfit your thrifted! That jacket is so very cool. I would love to find one like it!
i love that white jacket!!! and those green jeans look fab on you! you're seriously rockin' them.
ReplyDeletespinning-threads.blogspot.com
you do rock the bright greens pretty well- but I LOVE the vested look!
ReplyDeletei'm totally loving those green pants!! way to style them and you have amazing fashion sense!
ReplyDeletecute & little
Ha! Well, I think the cashier is nuts and that the jeans look great. I'm with the hubby on this one. As someone who avoided skinnies all the way through their popularity and finally learned to love them, I think you should wear them out. Maybe not to class though ; )
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog! I do think green pants are delicious. I'm excited that you have some!
ReplyDeleteAudrey @ Putting Me Together
Wowee! I gotta get me some green skinnies. You look HOT!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the nice comment on my blog. :) And brown counts as a color--it's one of my favorites too.
The green jeans look awesome! lovely shade!
ReplyDeleteWow! The brown jeans look like suede - and paired with the vest, you've got a bit of a steampunk vibe going on. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI think you should wear the green ones out of the house - you look amazing in them. If you're worried about plumber butt, just wear a longer top. But you simply must wear them! You look too good in them not to.
Wow! The green jeans are great. I adore that first top too. My suggestion if you want to try the jeans in public - try a tunic sweater over them! No worries about revealing too much. I think color should not be limited by age or even trend. I loved colorful denim even before it became trendy. Red jeans have always been a staple for me.
ReplyDeleteLol! I LOVE that they are your husband's favourite jeans on you!! But don't you try on before you buy? A possible solution, wear the green skinnies with a long tunic top, so they look a bit legging-like. That will disguise the super-low waistband. But I'd say you look pretty hot!
ReplyDeleteGo green jeans at any age!!! I love the reactions you got from DH and the grocery store staff - hehe!!
ReplyDeleteFabulous EBEW submission! Love that white jacket - rock on :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog<3

Love both of these looks! The white jacket is to fantastic and I WANT it as well as those green pants.
ReplyDeleteJulie
You totally rock the green jeans! That outfit screams "fun"!
ReplyDeleteI love your brown, tan and white look! You remind me of a chic equestrian in it! So lovely!

Mater--I don't have burgundy jeans, but I really like the color of these brown ones. They aren't exactly skinnies, but I'm most accustomed to a boot-cut jean.
ReplyDeleteMeg--I felt very lucky to find these and grabbed them without looking very closely at the cut. It's cool that the jacket is "steampunk". I tend to think of steampunk as darker colors.
ShyBiker--thank you. I think the more you blog, the easier it gets and I keep making small changes along the way.
Judith--colored jeans are kind of like Converse shoes. They make a person feel sassy.
Patti--sorry I missed Visible Monday yet again. I hope to have my life back to more of a routine just as soon as this wedding is behind us.
Pam--be sure to tell your friend that she looks great in Prada. It was interesting to visit all the entries for EBEW because color and pant was interpreted pretty broadly.
ReplyDeleteAlessandra--I understand the shopping ban I think. After a honeymoon as fabulous as you had...
Evelynne--Welcome to Rags and thanks for commenting. The green while fun is not a color I can imagine wearing very often.
LPC--thanks for appreciating the humor!
Headless--yes, colored jeans and converse sneakers invite the wearer to PLAY!
Susan--I think this one foray to the grocery store is enough...don't want to p*** off my favorite cashier too much.
ReplyDeleteAriane--you are most welcome for the comments. YOU are the one who will get me to wear socks with my saddle shoes. I need your inspiration.
Mette--the green jeans are a sort of joke and I would not have worn them without this monthly challenge.
Bibliomomia--thanks. I will wear the brown outfit again and possibly remix. But the green jeans are ONE TIME ONLY!
DejaPseu--I saw your rust colored pants (or a pic just like them) and yes, it is the time of year to wear them.
Vix--I have not learned yet to be quite so flamboyant as you and Helga and Desiree are. I am conscious of being a "grandmother", with all that entails.
ReplyDeleteAngie--I'm glad you understand. I think it is important to at least TRY some things. I know that there are some items I used to think were only for youngsters and I've changed my mind.
A-Dubs--I shall have to look for a tunic and perhaps reconsider the green jeans.
Aesthetic--Have you gone thrifting yet in OK? I probably shop 2-3 times a week. It's the constant trolling that finds treasures like the jacket.
Oomph--I would send these jeans to you if you weren't so much tinier than I am.
Kari--the green ones were just for fun. I would wear the brown outfit again.
ReplyDeleteRoseAG--I haven't had the jacket long, perhaps a month, but that's a great idea. Perhaps next summer.
Chalkdust--What size are you? I'm willing to send the green jeans along and it would be so fun to see them on a mother-to-be!
MissB--It could have been my imagination, but the cashier was distinctly grumpy.
Chantele--Welcome to Rags and thanks for stopping by.
Gracey--the jacket is pretty wonderful, but it honestly does look like a band uniform. As for the green, stretch denim fits just about anybody. I don't think my legs are skinny enough for skinnies!
ReplyDeleteShea--these green jeans are pretty stretchy. They might work for Sunday dinner so long as I had a loooong top.
Daniella--thank you!
Raquelita--heaven forbid! Can you imagine what they might "learn" in my classroom?
Debbie--I think you and I are going to have to arrange a thrifting date. I'm totally unfamiliar with the stores in your area though I've been known to travel to other cities to thrift.
Claire--I like the white jacket too, but how else to style it?
ReplyDeleteMeri--truth be told, the brown look is one I would actually wear...
Kilene--Welcome to Rags! I love the compliment coming from YOU!
Emily--I have never intentionally purchased skinnies although for most of my adult life I've worn tight bootcuts. That's my preferred jean look.
Audrey--Welcome to Rags! I've tried to visit all of the EBEW challengers and several of you have inspired me to try even more colors.
Sage--you're welcome. Brown feels a bit more "grown-up" to me...
ReplyDeleteGirlatFirstAvenue--Welcome to Rags!
JeanofAllTrades--you are the second person to suggest that the brown outfit has a steampunk vibe...I'll have to see what my students think.
MeganMae--welcome to Rags. I'll keep my eye out for a longer top. I know my red jeans have become a sort of "neutral" in my wardrobe.
Carolyn--one of the reasons I love thrifting is that I can afford to make an occasional mistake. I abhor taking my clothing off in ANY dressing room.
Desiree--Is the Phoenix like this? DH likes lots of stuff I would NEVER feature on the blog (like my bias cut pink slip!)
ReplyDeleteTasia--Welcome to Rags and thank you. I think Linda and Liz do a fabulous job of organizing this event. It's my favorite style meme.
Julie--I'm not willing to part just yet with the jacket, but I might consider parting with the jeans. What size do you wear?
kimbercrafts--Welcome to Rags and thank you.
Val--Welcome to Rags! An equestrian, huh. I'll need a horse for an accessory!
Enough about those pants.. CHECK OUT THAT JACKET!!!!!!!!!! MJ is back!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you are killing it in those green skinny jeans. I can't believe they are so low waisted! It really doesn't look that way at all...cross my heart and kiss my elbows, they look fantastic on you.
ReplyDeleteToo bad you dont feel comfortable enough to wear those green jeans out of the house cuz you look fabulous in them!
ReplyDeleteLove the brown jeans too--and love those boots! And I love that white jacket!
Love love love all this Terri!
Terri, you look amazing in both pairs of jeans!
ReplyDeleteThe first look is so very chic - almost a military look. The green jeans...I'm in love with them. You look incredible in them and I encourage you to keep wearing them - in public!
Stamp tramp, lol!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of colored jeans and yet don't own a pair. I'm thinking maybe a brown pair might be up my alley. You are rockin' in yours!
I adore all your looks, but the white jacket is my favourite.
ReplyDeleteXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx
Yes I love both these looks too, but yay! for green jeans! I remember you commenting about mine this past spring. I wore mine on Tuesday for EBEW but after a couple rough days haven't posted them so might have missed the submission window. Love that white jacket too! Also I can relate to the idea of clothing items that only seem to get worn "around the house" - private vs. public clothing and what happens when the private gets an unexpected outing can make for interesting moments. I had to wear my short/tight workout skirt into school the other morning...
ReplyDeleteI love the green jeans! You look great in them. What about pairing them with a black blazer? A little "adult" structure, additional coverage.
ReplyDeleteI have to laugh because my spouse/photographer has been known to react to my outfits with... um.... enthusiasm, as well. I consider that one of the bonuses of blogging. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, about how great you look: everybody is SO right.
LOVE those green jeans! Isn't Savers the best?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment on my blog! :)
Of course you would have an imaginary "Tramp Stamp"! Love the description of the shopping trip.
ReplyDeleteThat jacket is incredible! I love the structure and the buttons.
ReplyDeleteAnd those green jeans look fabulous on you! You fit right in ;)
Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting! It's nice meeting you ^_^

Terri, first of all, LOVE LOVE LOVE the brown jeans and white jacket! My favorite! Secondly, those green jeans on you? You've got the best tushie!!! Seriously! No wonder your hubby was following you around and the bagger was oh-so-friendly! Big colorful hugs to you! ~Serene
ReplyDeleteI don't entirely follow the argument about the style of jeans and the age of women wearing them. I have assumed that since you thrift all your clothes -or most- you are making your own style rules. Barring the concerns you raised about potential exposure - which frankly doesn't do anyone any favours, no matter their age - I can't see why you shouldn't wear the green jeans out and about. A tunic top would take care of the exposure...but then it would also hide your 'asset' and perhaps disappoint your hubby. The brown outfit really suits you as well. I read somewhere about someone snagging white jeans and dyeing them bright pink. In order to effect the 'column' approach to dress and still maintain my jeans lifestyle, I'm thinking of trying a bit of dying myself...
ReplyDeleteNice style! I like it.
