A Quickie: Day 2 of the Challenge

I had to retake my capsule wardrobe photos when I realized I had left out two items, so here is the belated evidence of what I'm confining myself to during this week of the Capsule Wardrobe Challenge.  It appears that I've reverted to my former "neutral" ways.  Note the hat in the middle though!

DH snapped this photo on my way out the door Tuesday morning.  It was joyous to have morning light to work with again.  To my eye, this blouse by Chico's is an olive drab, although it almost looks like a grey or even brass color in the photos.  The skirt is by Loft.  And the heels are an example of a Target shoe.  I'm on my second year of wearing them.

By the end of the day, after repeatedly trying to roll up the sleeves on a silk blouse, I had decided the shirt was just too big for me. On the left you'll see a slightly different styling with the shirt tail out. Is this tacky? On the right, you'll see my attempt to combine necklaces. (Anne at the Frump Factor has a GOOD post on this)  The elephant wiggles its ears and was a gift to me from my middle daughter who bought it at a Tulsa store, Accessories and More. The jade came from a souvenir shop in Alaska. This is how I look by the end of a work day. Today, I have two meetings and have not yet begun to prepare for my evening class. Gotta run!

  1. I think the blouse looks lovely either way, tucked in or loose. Not tacky in the slightest with that smart little belt! In fact if I was to think of a word as opposite as it's possible to be from your style, tacky would be that word!
I love the paired necklaces - I have 2 on today too! An elephant with wiggly ears? What a fabulous gift! xxxx

    1. Curtise--I know that years ago I made a regular habit of belting oversized men's shirts with jeans...but I haven't done that in 20 years. I need to practice this multiple necklace thing more often.

  3. i have a blouse that is a yucky brown...no matter what i do with it, it still seems drab. olive, on the other hand is great. i love to mix mine up with pinks and oranges. i don't mind the blouse on you at all tucked in or left out. the above outfit is one of my work go-to styles as well.

    1. oomph--maybe my shirt is brown and I'm just in denial about it. I may have to try mixing it with some brighter colors.

  4. I like the alternate looks from this one outfit - I think I prefer the belted version. That elephant necklace is awesome, and I love the jade pendant (I would be playing with that all the time!).

You're doing a great job on the Challenge, Terri!

    1. Sheila--yes, when I wear the jade, I do like to touch it. It is calming to me and it has not been a particularly calm week at work.

  5. I like your neutral palette (but I see some great blues too) and I think you'll get lots of stylish mileage during your challenge. My favourite is how you've put your wonderful elephant pendant and jade pendant together against that silky canvas. I'm looking forward to a photo of you in that beautiful cloche hat too! Tucked in or loose, both looks are great.

    1. Melanie--The hat is a first for me and thus far, it has been far too windy to wear it. We've had 40 mph winds and I have no desire to go chasing it.

  6. I like this outfit too!! The shirt is worth altering, if you feel it is too big. Can you turn the cuffs up, or do they slide down again?
And the mix of the pendants, great!

    1. Mette--I like some of the shoulder detail on the shirt, though I only spent about $3 on it to begin with. The tailoring would cost far more than the blouse itself!

  7. Odd, the blouse does photograph gray, but a beautiful interesting gray.

And I totally admire your challenge of a capsule wardrobe. I'm too indecisive when getting dressed to make that work for me, but I'm excited to see how you make this work!

    1. Gracey--yes, the color is very strange, although I've been reading about aging eyes and apparently as human's age, they begin to loose their ability to see things in a blue spectrum. Some color blindness, perhaps. It has been a healthy challenge for me and I have realized several things for the FIRST time.

  10. I belatedly posted my capsule group today too. Those neutrals look great and I don't think the untucked look is tacky. I had today's floral blouse tucked in to a pinstripe skirt, but after seeing first video footage of it, I ended up untucking it and putting the belts over it... sometimes with "blousy" blouses, it just makes for a cleaner line. What you might consider tacky could have to do with the different types of tops that men are "supposed" to wear tucked in or out. Something to do with the hem lines, whether they are rounded or square cut I think. Good thing we don't have to follow their rules, or any others for that matter.

    1. Sandra--well this blouse did come to feel blousy by the end of the day. This blouse has a contoured shirt tail like a man's shirt...which is why I wondered whether it was acceptable or not. I'll be by soon to check out your post.

  13. You look terrific in your olive/gray blouse - I really like it belted. And your pendants are fabulous, doubled up or alone. I adore elephant jewelry, even though my political leanings are definitely toward the donkey : >

    1. Patti--I have been in search of a wider black belt, but no luck yet. I think this is the first time I've worn the elephant, which, ahem, do not represent my political leanings either.

  14. Hooray! You posted the necklaces! I love them, and they look really good together. I think your capsule looks great -- and I see no reason not to make good use of neutrals with this kind of challenge. (That's what they're for!) And no, the shirt doesn't look at all tacky, in my opinion (but then, I am a devout non-tucker).

  20. The won't stay rolled-up sleeves would drive me nuts! Sometimes you'll see a little button band thing that will hold a rolled up sleeve but I guess that wasn't to be for this blouse.

The colors are nice, a good look for a day of work.

    1. Rose--yes, the slipping down rolls DID drive me nuts, which is why I have so many shirts in cotton blends. I'm fond of rolling up my shirt sleeves--a touch of the working woman about that.
