The big day has finally arrived! I know that some of us can't attend. At least one told me she was getting her wisdom teeth pulled. Another is off to Paris and Provence. And at least one is getting married!
Most nights I don't wear "much" to bed. But I have taken to wearing white chemise in recent years as a way to cope with the changes of body temperature that are characteristic of menopause. In honor of this special event, I've decided to wear my film noir dacron slip (it has a tag that reads "Black Magic"), with a funky satin/silk kimono. The kimono is reversible and the dragon on the back side reminds me of something a fighter might wear in the ring.
I probably ought to warn all of you that I'm not very pleasant for the first hour after waking in the morning. It takes at least two cups of coffee before I feel human enough to cook! And these photos are an honest early morning look.
Now, does anyone remember how to play "Stiff as a Board, Light as a Feather"? It's that levitating game?
- Here's how to "attend": Just compose a post that includes any night wear, midnight snack or delicious brunch dish.
- Include a link to RagsagainsttheMachine.com somewhere in your post.
- Go to the bottom of this post and click on this cute little link:
Very stylish over cover like the kimono...which I absolutely love.Japan is full of delicate styles.
ReplyDeleteMineral foundation--Welcome to Rags! You have stumbled into a pajama party. This is far from my usual wear.
DeleteWhat a gorgeous kimono! and yes I agree; always a good idea to wear "something" to a pyjama party ;) And I probably should have given fair warning about my honest early morning look too :D
ReplyDeleteCarolyn--It takes an hour for the sleep wrinkles to disappear!
DeleteAm I allowed to sumbit this? it's really old!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.oranges-and-apples.com/2011/06/sleepover-party.html
absolutely! The more the merrier.
DeleteGorgeous kimono, Terri. I'll need copious amounts of tea in the morning, if that's OK. And I am NOT at my best then either!
ReplyDeleteMy real night attire isn't fit to be seen by the general populace, never mind all you super-stylish blogging ladies, so I've had to go with a crazy dress-up version.
I've brought the gin, now who's got a lemon? xxxx
I have quite an assortment of tea about. what is your preferred flavor?
DeleteI love your crazy dress-up version! And your post gave me a great laugh last night. Oh, gin--we need a lime too and some tonic water.
beautiful kimono! I'm hoping I can get something together for this!
ReplyDeleteoomph--I really hope you can participate too! One of us needs to wear a long t-shirt...
DeleteThat's a lovely kimono - both ways. If all goes well maybe you can share how to do the link up thing, in a future post?
ReplyDeletekaffesoester--it should work just like Patti's does for Visible Monday. Did you click on the Add your Link button?
DeleteFun idea, I'll try to pop over with a midnight snack this weekend. Looks like it will still be going through Sunday pm? My sleepover MO has always been to be the last one still awake.
ReplyDeleteYes, it will add links until some time on Sunday. And we'll need more snacks by then. So, when you outlasted everyone, did you then play practical jokes on your friends?
DeleteSorry I can't join you this time...so busy with Fiesta...but it looks like a ton of fun!!
ReplyDeletePam--I know you are busy with Fiesta. I loved your post about the gallery!
DeleteThis is sooo much fun! I love it. And your harem room is fabulous. I want one too. :)
ReplyDelete- Marie
Marie--come back and pose with us in your flannel nightgown!
DeleteI will be there - but I am realizing my sleepwear is very tatty!
ReplyDeleteI have three white gowns that I alternate between and I would not be caught dead in any of them on the blog! I understand, I think.
DeleteThis is such a fun idea. Most of the time I sleep in old tshirts and underpants — perhaps I need to find some more grown up pjs.
ReplyDeleteLove the reversible kimono. I have a flimsy red kimono I got in Stratford, Canada. I really should wear it more often.
Jacqueline--Welcome to Rags! I have a variety of sleepwear and robes. Why not model the kimono and come link up with us.
DeleteHi Terri!
ReplyDeleteSorry Terri, but i think i will pass this one - but i will enjoy all of you ladies!I salute your sense of humour and braveness and stepping out of your comfort zone - Well done -
Ariane xxxx
Arianne--Oh, I'm pouting. But I think I understand.
DeleteHi Terrri!
ReplyDeleteI'm in! But, my image didn't load-i tried to re-do it, but it won't allow me to, can u fix it? I am usually doing something like this,LOL!
Hugs
Reva
Reva--It looks like you've solved your problem...and you are in high style!
Deletei figured it out, i'm having so much fun seeing all the bedbugs ;)
DeleteI didn't have a chance to do a slumber post so I will settle instead for a slumber party blog hop and check out all the late night festivites. I love that kimono you're wearing- total Kung Fu bad-ass and perfect worn with my morning cuppa!
ReplyDeleteBella--Dang! It was a dream about a slumber party at YOUR house is Sacramento that started this entire idea a month ago. You can't not come!
DeleteI am attending... but i need to put on my pjs !
ReplyDeleteLorena--Oh, can't wait. You might want to bring a pillow!
DeleteI came in late.... too late to link!
Deletehttp://myeverydaywear.blogspot.com/2012/04/terris-slumber-party.html
I brought the treats, as usual. Everyone looks great in their nightwear.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing besides easter candy in those brownies is there?

REVA
Yum! I'll bet there won't be any leftovers!
DeleteOh I hope I'm not too late to the party! I brought treats--they have amaretto-soaked cherries and chocolate in 'em, so we oughtta be partying well into the weekend! ;-)
ReplyDeleteTerri, love your kimono! I wore one too, but mine does not have a fabulous dragon on it. After a few cups of amaretto, though, I might be convinced to show everyone my dragon tattoo...
Ginny--I'm going to try all these recipes myself when I recover from this 48 hour slumber party. I'm so glad that you brought more sweets and I loved all the poses I saw on your blog.
DeleteAlmost forgot--I'm so in awe of your secret room! So cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI own to Japanese happi. One of cotton cloth, the other of kimono grade silk with embroidered dragons. I wear them to festivals in the area I live in during the summer. I've been meaning to get a full length Yukata (summer, cotton, almost seersucker like kimono), but I just haven't gotten around to it. I'm very picky about the design...
ReplyDeleteKionon--I own two very nice silk kimono that were sent to me from Japan (Iman of Mishaps and Miracles). I would love to see you in your happi!
DeleteHere I am, my kimono is not nearly as nice as yours...but my pj's are way to ratty to wear in public. I think I need some of Ginny's cherries. I'm not much of a night owl so I'll probably be in bed before everyone else........ta ta
ReplyDeleteLinda--you can't be a party pooper. You're the one who has done the scrapbooking weekends. I'll get out all my supplies (they're in the closet where the harem room is located) and you can scrap all night.
DeleteI'm afraid Miz Bagg has muscled her way into my life yet again! - she has insisted on attending on my behalf. You look fabulous in that kimono and how cool that it is reversible! Yes, it reminds me of a fighter's robe too. I did a painting with a boxing woman in a robe similar to this. PS. I love that levitating game!
ReplyDeleteMelanie--We will be sure to play some sort of practical joke on Miz Bagg and bring her down a notch or two. This is the LEAST of my small collection of kimono. I'd love to see that painting. You've played the levitating game? The first time I witnessed it, I was astounded.
DeleteWow. Your nightclothes are fabulous, and you look positively sultry! I am a sturdy flannel PJs, over-vest and housecoat girl myself and a bit on the shy side to post even that.
ReplyDeleteNarda--come join the fun, flannel pjs and all!
Deleteyou look much better than me when i wake up! looking great :)
ReplyDeletenatalie
http://lucyandtherunaways.blogspot.com
I should have posed with the coffee cup and the bottles of vitamins at my dining room table!
DeleteOh! happy you had more participants! I love what Mélanie and Patti did! Again sorry for not participating! But again Bravo to all the lovely ladies who joined the fun!
ReplyDeleteAriane
Arianne--Yes, I had my fingers crossed for ten guests and we have surpassed that! Perhaps this will become an annual event...and you can arrive next year.
DeleteWhen it comes to unstylish pj's, think mine are right up there. My own post about sleep attire centered around men's T shirts bought in thrifts in large or extra-large for great comfort.
ReplyDeleteLove your kimona, which I can also see as a jacket for a black top and pants.
Savvy--gigantic t-shirts are the best! Now you've got me rethinking this kimono...I bought it as a sort of lark for the costume closet.
DeleteOh, what a wonderful idea, Terri. I've been away and am sorry I missed it. My warm weather sleepwear is woefully lacking, anyway. And I am SO with you on the morning thing. I need to huddle over my coffee for quite awhile, speaking to nobody. Love your kimono!
ReplyDeleteAnne--you are the mistress of tactful understatement: "my sleepwear is woefully lacking." ;)
DeleteIf I had done before and after posts for the pajama party, no one would have attended!
Hee! Well, if you ever do this in winter, I'll be ALL over it. I'd wear my flannel PJ's to work, if I could.
DeleteTerri,
ReplyDeleteYour kimono robe is beautiful! I'm pretty grumpy in the morning before my coffee as well. Thanks for letting me come to your party!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Jeannie
Jeannie--you look very elegant in your jammies! It was a pleasure having you...
DeleteI'll have to join you next time!! I don't have any pictures, or a way to generate some in the moment, so know I'm there in spirit and will be enjoying everyone's posts.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time!!!
Love, Jean
Jean--I may have to make this an annual event. I can understand the photo problem and you are entirely welcome to attend in spirit.
Deletethis is such a fun idea! i love it! i wear the worst pajamas. seriously, i spend all my money on clothes to wear out and i neglect the pjs. but you look fab in the kimono!!!
ReplyDeletehttp://spinning-threads.blogspot.com
Claire--I suspect that most of us wear what is most comfy to bed and it is one place in the world we don't have to care what we look like. There are some fabulous jammies in the thrifts.
DeleteSorry I did not join in virtually. I did kind of join in at my house in my long nightgown. I was so PO'd after having my hair colored and having it be horridly unexpectedly expensive and not even what I wanted that I was not going to be fit PJ party company. I love the idea of the party and hopefully next time I will be more cooperative!
ReplyDeleteLove your kimono.
Debbi--We could have colored your hair for you! That would have made for a wonderful pajama party adventure. I may have to make this an annual event. No apologies necessary.
DeleteYou are just too fun! Have a fun party.
ReplyDeleteLila--There's still time to link up...
DeleteSorry to have missed your party, but I'm appreciating your kimono. You must have quite a collection, as I've seen you in other stunners. You do have a touch of 'magic' in your ensemble!
ReplyDeleteJudith--you can still link up...and I'll bet you have a fabulous vintage robe in your collection. I think my ensemble needs a pair of boxing gloves a la Hillary Swank in Million Dollar Baby!
DeleteOh my, what a wonderful party!!! So sorry to have missed it!!! Such a fabulous idea my dear!!!!
ReplyDeleteTamera--there is still time to attend! I don't think we have any long trailing nightgowns in the collection yet.
DeleteThis pajama party is awesome! I didn't link up but I'm participating in spirit, after the fact. You look very chic in your PJs- very Blair Waldorf slumber party I think!
ReplyDeleteMeri--ha, ha! I may have to make this an annual event and then you'll have no excuse. Take one of your famous backside, but anonymous posts!
DeleteWhat a great collection of pictures for this post. What a fab idea.
ReplyDeleteJane--this pajama party idea may have to be my event, just as your "capsule wardrobe" is. That is a great idea too.
DeleteSorry I'm late! I had an almost identical kimono to yours - reversible with dragon on the back but it was blue - i bought it from a secondhand market stall - I gave it away recently because I wasn't wearing it, sadly it's too cold most of the time for me to make use of kiminos!
ReplyDeleteVeshoevius--well, mine was thrifted too. This one will likely go in the dress up clothes after this event.
DeleteCrap, I missed it!!! LOVE that kimono! Maybe I'll show up later with the popcorn! :)
ReplyDeleteStephanie--thank you. I think now that we've broken the ice with this event...the turn out next year may be better. Popcorn is GOOD for us.
DeleteOh wow amor!
ReplyDeleteCan you include my Easter nightie post?
La Dama--Link up. Just click on the icon and add the link of one of your baby doll posts!
DeleteWish I wasn't about the jet out the door. Fantastic idea, and everyone looks fabulous kicked back in their jammies. Wish I could spend my Sunday in mine. Don't feel bad, I'm not a morning person either. Coffee and caffeine don't help much, I just need my hour to wake up!
ReplyDeleteMegan Mae--well, I wish I could be like my grandson and hit the ground running and with a sparkle in my eye in the morning.
DeleteOh wow Territa you look gorgeous in your satin Chinese robe.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you made the deadline. I think we have a fabulous and eclectic group of guests! And you and Curtise BOTH look great in your baby dolls.
DeleteYou look fabulous in your slinky pjs! I was wearing cotton ones and drooling and bleeding on Friday. Stupid oral surgery!
ReplyDeleteRaquelita--so, I take it you survived the tooth/teeth. Did you have a lot of swelling or pain? I was mostly worthless for the two days following when I had mine pulled.
DeleteOoh, what a neat idea! I wish I'd checked in sooner.
ReplyDeleteRebekah--I think this may become an annual event...it sounds like we may do this again, next May. I'll warn you personally next time.
DeleteYou look so great in your robe. Yowza lady! Sorry I missed the fun, my son is in the middle of NY state testing and the schedule is wiping us out around here. Last week it was English, this week it's math. Ugh! XO, Jill
ReplyDeleteJill--My grandson has that this week. He is young enough that we are mostly just emphasizing the good breakfast bit...
DeleteI completely missed the deadline too!!! But you were right, you thought I'd turn up naked and I'm afraid that's how it's been the past few nights ... I bin in a cold sweat baby!!!! xoxoxoxoxooxo
ReplyDeleteDesiree--I think next year that I will personally invite attendees, as well as just announcing on the blog. But, naked or not, you ARE welcome at my house any time.
DeleteI so wanna do this next time I didn't quite get what was going on but I really love this idea, so creative and fun!
ReplyDeleteKrista--Dang, I wish I had discovered you sooner. I'm certain you would have been a COLORFUL addition to the party.
DeleteSorry I had to miss the fun :). That was the day we went to the flower market in San Francisco to purchase buckets of flowers. When we got home we continued vacuuming and dusting and pruning and weeding and so on. All of the effort was worth it.
ReplyDeleteSusan--I began to think about this project when I knew that we likely wouldn't make it to SF for your big event. I was sad to miss it...but have learned, gradually, not to rush our travel experiences.
