The days since have been busy ones with two guests from Montana, including a grandson who now looks like Harry Potter. The live-in grandson lost his first tooth at a Royals baseball game and arrived home so exhausted he asked the tooth fairy to wait a night.
While my daughter has entertained these guests, we've had two highly successful thrifting outings. On Friday, I found the bowling shoes I've been looking for for two years and...a cashmere sweater by Eileen Fisher in prime condition! On Sunday, we visited the newly opened Goodwill Outlet and pawed through a few bins. I've read about such places on other blogs and was very afraid that the place would be smelly and the bins full of items no one else wanted. Instead, we were greeted with the fragrance of clean laundry as we came through the door. After an hour of digging, we weighed our cart. DH walked out with an artist's valise and I had 6 new-to-me items, all for $4! It's quite a jaunt to visit this place, but I am certain we'll return.
In addition, I've finally hemmed the skirt I queried my readers about weeks ago and made a second draw string skirt from previously thrfted pieces.
And finally, take a gander at the COMPLETE manuscript of my students' collaborative novel--Under the Plastic Sky!

Oh, Terri! That photo of you under the desk is too funny! How tiny are you?!
ReplyDeleteI love your dress and the sneakers!!
Can't wait to see what you've picked up for $4!
Jeannie--I'm not tiny at all, but the space under my desk IS!
DeleteI love that photo of your under your desk. The sneakers are somehow the perfect touch. I think this one may have a long life:).
ReplyDeleteLisa--I'd love to see you "under your desk", but I suspect that might undignified and I would NOT wear Dries van Nooten on that day!
DeleteI love your outfit- that dress fits you perfectly- snug in the right places. I don't get that under desk meme but I like the photo. Congrats on school ending. Say hello to summer!
ReplyDeleteBella--I don't "get it" either, but that is often the way with many memes.
DeleteThe dress is lovely! I cannot wait to see all your newly thrifted stuff :-)
ReplyDeleteKi--I have thrifted quite a lot of things lately...and it may take me weeks to snap outfits of it all.
DeleteCute dress and sneakers. Love the under desk photo. I've seen a few bloggers doing this and may have to try it myself....but that would entail tidying up so it might be a while. haha
ReplyDeleteLisa--I don't actually know where the under the desk thing started...but it was fun to try it once. Never again. I had to shove some things around to find a space I would fit.
DeleteGreat outfit. Great photos!
ReplyDeletejaljen--Welcome to Rags and thank you.
Deletecongrats on finishing finals!!! and how cute do you look in the plaid. i love plaid. and the sneakers are a perfect comfy combo!
ReplyDeletehttp://spinning-threads.blogspot.com
Claire--this plaid just seems so American, you know? I wonder if students ever ponder how their teachers are as beleaguered at the end of a semester as the students are.
DeleteLove your dress!
ReplyDeleteKim,USA
Kim--thank you! I loved the jacket you wore today too.
DeleteGreat dress and YaY, school's out for summer!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Reva
Uh-oh, you've just set off an ear worm.
DeleteThis is a perfect SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER DRESS...and I am actually jealous...if I crawled under my desk, I probably would not be able to get out!!
ReplyDeletePam--Well, I'm moving more slowly than I once did. What is the last day of your school? And will you get a break this summer? I'll be working.
DeleteYou can come out from under your desk now, Terri!
ReplyDeleteLove your check dress, I've done that "can't get in to this" thing before discovering there is actually a zip! You look cool and casual and lovely. xxx
Curtise--I'm glad you can relate. A video of such a struggle might be an interesting thing for a style blog.
DeleteUnder your desk, mmm? How depressed are you, Terri? I don't think I get it either. Then again, maybe it's about showing how tidy and organised you are. Like the red shoes!
ReplyDeleteShelley--I'm not depressed at all now that school is out! And when school is underway, I'm too busy to think about it. My desk is only this organized at the END of a semester.
DeleteLove the end-of-work summer dress, Terri. And congrats on finding the bowling shoes, as well as six pieces for $4 (like free!).
ReplyDeletePatti--Have you ever visited one of the outlet stores for Goodwill? I think most major metro areas have them. You'll be delightfully surprised, but you probably have to be in the right mindset for that kind of thrifting.
DeleteYou look SO ready for summer! :-) The picture under the desk cracked me up. I feel like that some days. Cute dress!
ReplyDeleteDejaPseu--Don't you have days that you want to crawl under your desk too? When I first saw Sheila's similar pic, I couldn't imagine ever doing it myself...but here I am a month later.
DeleteGreat End of Work dress. You fit under your desk quite nicely. If I tried that I could probably never get back up, LOL!
ReplyDeleteDarla
Darla--thank you. I don't actually fit very nicely. I had a cramp in my gut after I snapped the last photo. The secret is taking plenty of glucosamine.
DeleteSuch a cute dress! Fits perfectly too. Can't wait to see the bowling shoes on you. wondering how you'll wear them. ;)
ReplyDeleteJoni--The bowling shoes are red and blue, so we will see what I come up with. I may have to apply some grips to the soles.
DeleteLove that picture of you under the desk, it reminds me of the "suicidal man print" on my latest charity shop blouse! That dress looks lovely and looking forward to seeing a bowling shoe post. x
ReplyDeleteVix--I'll have to come see the "suicidal man" print again. In the past year with changes at the college, there have been many days I wanted to crawl under my desk.
DeleteCongrats on your achievement!!! the dress is cute and a style statement with the pop of color!! looking forward to hearing whats next for you!! xo J
ReplyDeleteJodi--thank you! This would be semester 72 of my teaching career!
DeleteThe picture of you under the desk is priceless!! Love the dress and congrats on your school year.
ReplyDeleteJean--glad I could give you a smile.
DeleteTerri I love you in this plaid dress. Please wear it on the 4th of July! So glad you survived (and thrived under) another school year. Woo-hoo! I'm sorry I've been MIA lately, so very busy, and must find a job now that my youngest will start kindergarten in the fall. I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI hope you put a few dollars aside in your Hermes scarf fund since you are doing so well thrifting? I see reduced price scarves all the time at various sites I check out so if you ever have more than that one design in mind (which I have not come across, alas), let me know, consider me your personal Hermes scarf shopper! XO, Jill
Jill--the plaid dress seems very "american" to me. I have grown very matter-of-fact about my work since changes to the college's work force have been announced. What kind of work will you be looking for? Having a kindergartener is momentous--I remember.
DeleteThere is in fact another scarf I'm interested in. Have you seen the ones that look like a frame from a cartoon? And I would appreciate all the help I can get with the scarf. I have sampled some retail purchases--perfume and a necklace from MoMa.
Leaving with a good haul from a thrift store always sets me in a good mood. When will we get to see your finds?
ReplyDeleteYour photo #under your desk made me laugh out loud. I like a little whimsy when I read a style blog like yours.
Jacqueline--I really need to NOT go thrifting for a few weeks until I put together some looks from the great finds I've had. I may do a post on Thursday about my "loot", though I don't often do posts like that.
DeleteThere may be more whimsy than style at Rags.
Great outfit - you CAN TOTALLY rock sneakers !
ReplyDeleteLorena--I have a childhood memory of getting one new pair of sneakers every summer, which is probably what keyed off this look.
DeleteI can't stop looking at the photo of you under your desk, it's the best! Your look absolutely fantastic in our dress and sneakers!
ReplyDeletekaffesoester--thank you. I think I looked a little stiff crawling out.
DeleteCongratulations on reaching the end of the semester! That's a great dress, and I love it worn with the sneakers. I had to bite the bullet and buy a new pair of sneakers this past week. Mine were dead, and after much searching, I had to give up and pay full retail, which almost killed me.
ReplyDeleteThe desk photo is hilarious!
Ana--I've gotten my money's worth out of these sneakers, which were thrifted in the first place. I took a hard look at a pair of orange hi-tops though this past week...
DeleteCongrats on your end of semester and having finals behind you. With this outfit you look ready to enjoy the summer!
ReplyDeleteStepping--I will enjoy the summer between teaching my three classes online! Yikes.
DeleteI like the dress. The picture under the desk just screams Finals Week to me.
ReplyDeleteRosemary--your comment gave me a great idea for my finals week post at the end of summer. I'll do a take on the famous, "The Scream."
DeleteThanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog. And congratulations on the completion of another semester. For me, yesterday's graduation ceremonies signaled the beginning of summer.
ReplyDeleteI really like your piece on H&M and XII. I can say I've never shopped there successfully, I've been to both stores in the nearest mall but, I can't fit into their clothes. I guess my Dutch ancestry gave me a large frame, and really I'm not that big. I did thrift a shirt recently from each store, the XXI was a large and of very poor quality and I was disappointed I spent the $1.99 on it. However, the L.O.G.G. gingham shirt I recently thrifted, again $1.99, was of mediocre quality but, I like it! From the information I've read on your blog and have seen other places recently, I know I will never shop there and will probably not even thrift their items.
Thrifted or Scripted--Welcome to Rags! I didn't try anything on at H&M or F21 as I've thickened in the middle a bit and have a post-children figure! You're correct that I'm not the shopper they're after.
DeleteI just remembered a question u asked me last week: Yes, the wig is a 'wiglet' which has to be pinned and is very airy. I love it, but it is too warm for say July/August. it's worth it for a change,or when i have a bad hair day ;)
ReplyDeletexXx
Reva
Reva--thanks for answering my question. I'm tempted to sample a curly bobbed grey wig!
DeleteTerri, I love the plaid dress, and the under-the-desk pic. I'd do one, if only I can make sure someone is around to help me get up...lol.
ReplyDeleteYay for your GW score - can't wait to see the goods and your refashioned skirt as well. I'm looking for a $1 item to refashion - ready to get out the sewing machine for the first time in a long time. Also glad your GW experience wasn't smelly :P
Lynne--I only did this because the final I gave on that Wednesday was literally the last of the finals on campus. I pretty much had the office to myself...and would have been embarassed to have anyone see me. You'll note there are no skeletons in my office!
DeleteMy remakes are hand stitched as our sewing machine is in storage somewhere. DH actually uses it more than I do for his projects.
Congratulations on your well deserved freedom and the photo under the desk is a classic. Somehow your outfit is perfect for your knee to forehead pose. I appreciate learning about 'Ethical Fashion Bloggers.' A new site to explore!
ReplyDeleteJudith--my freedom will be short lived as summer school classes begin on June 4...although it may be the last summer I ever teach!
DeleteHi Terri,
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Project Minima and taking time to comment. I must say, your casual last day of school look is the bee's knees! And even better is the tucked-under-the-desk view...
Pao--I'm intrigued by the project you're doing and will be back. I like the combination of Style and Art!
DeleteI'm intrigued by the collaborative novel idea! I once had a dress that I struggled with for like 2 years before i realized there was a hidden half zipper in the side... but even then it was still hard to get into. Silly shift dresses :) It looks nice on you though!
ReplyDeleteMeri--to write the collaborative novel we used Chris Vogel's The Writer's Journey. Students created three characters, but primarily followed one throughout the course of the story. The first three chapters were written in short sections that I edited together, but then each student was in charge of one chapter for chapters 4-11, and then they collaborated on the last chapter again. The plot hangs together amazingly well.
DeleteWoo! Congrats on the end of the year. Love the plaid dress and sneaks. Definitely my kind of hot weather outfit. I also just thrifted a snug dress, turns out it too has a zipper! Oops.
ReplyDeleteAhah! Love the underthedesk photo. Original credit for the idea goes to Megan over at the Fashionable Bureaucrat.
Megan--thanks for the info on where the meme originated!
DeleteCan I just tell you, you have killer shoulders. I love this whole look. I always adore sneaks with a dress. Glad you scored at the goodwill. I can't believe your grandson wanted the tooth fairy to wait he must of been pooped.
ReplyDeleteOn another note I have not been into a foreve21 since your post about fast fashion. I never knew.i may still break down but it makes me think twice
CurvyEveryday--Welcome to Rags! Thanks for the props on the shoulders (my father gets the credit for those). The tooth has been a bit of a trauma to my grandson since it first loosened up so he may have just been relieved that it was gone.
DeleteGlad to hear about your F21 resolve...may it last.
Can't wait to tell you my version of the lost tooth saga. Aunt Silly and Bubba came to his rescue; as did the elderly vendor working/cleaning up after her shift.
DeletePooped is an understatement; Older bubba told me and Aunt K numerous times that night(before dusk) that he was tired, and ready for bed.
Yet, - both nephews lit up when fireworks erupted.
As did I. :)
Cilla
Priscilla--There is always more to the story. Had not realized that the boys were pooped so early on.
DeleteGreat outfit,love this look :)
ReplyDeleteClairejustine--thank you!
DeleteI like the dress + sneaker combo. Boy do I have tooth fairy stories. The fairy forgot to come one time...boy was mini mad! Oops!
ReplyDeleteOomph--you should do a post on tooth fairy stories! You could even do a "tooth fairy" look: is it all black so as not to be seen in the dark or does the tooth fairy have wings...
DeleteYouunderstood right. I always buy secondhand clothes, and Spain is a no secondhad land, so i travelwith an empty case and buy. You look so fresh...
ReplyDeleteSacramento--I think it would be so exciting to travel this way. DH & I have often discussed it...You must be in secondhand heaven.
DeleteI love this dress paired with those adorable sneakers. And although I'm quite confused by this #underthedesk thing, I do love your photo.
ReplyDeleteStacey--thank you. I'm confused about the underthedesk thing too...but anything for a meme.
DeleteVery cute shift dress...i like the plaid design and the lovely cady colors. Look fabulous with a pair of sneakers. That picture of you under the desk is funny. I have seen Beth doing it too.
ReplyDeleteMongs
mythriftycloset.blogspot.com
Mongs--Thank you. Beth? What is the name of her blog...I want to track this meme to its source if I can.
DeleteLOVE the casual red cons with the dress!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog yesterday; it's so nice to meet you!
xo
Kym
bitty.and.bunny
Kym--about once a week I try to visit new-to-me blogs because it is easy to limit yourself to one's own "neighborhood" on the Internet. It's good to meet you too.
DeleteCongratulations for the accomplished mission!
ReplyDeleteYou are wearing a really cute dress. I like it!
Mette--thank you! A semester's end always feels like an accomplishment because of all the busy-ness toward the end.
DeleteCongrats, Terri, on completing the semester. Loved the shot of you under the desk!
ReplyDeleteApril--thank you. Often, when a semester ends, I just want to SLEEP for three days!
DeleteGreat outfit. I love your fun side. I have just ordered a new pair of Converse too. Navy ones.
ReplyDeleteJane--Yeah, for new sneakers! Mine always bring out a playful side of my personality.
DeleteHow cute you are under you desk! For some reason when I picture what you'd be like in person, I picture a dry sharp wit....am I right? I can't trust my judgment any longer since I was CONVINCED that you wore the shirt to H&M! LOL Big hug girly! ~Serene
ReplyDeleteSerene--DH gets to see the dry, sharp wit, but very few others do. It was just a fluke that I wasn't wearing the shirt...I had planned to, although it was so busy no one would have noticed it.
Deleteyou look lovely in your casual outfit and red sneakers, it's so fresh and funny!
ReplyDeletebesos
Senora--I like your phrase, "fresh and funny".
DeleteSo cute to see you under your desk. I'm impressed that your students collaboratively wrote a novel!
ReplyDeleteSusan--I described the writing process in one of my comments above, if you're interested. The course was taught in collaboration with an anthropology instructor.
DeleteCongrats Terri!
ReplyDeleteYou look cute under your desk, reminds of the time we had earthquakes practices in school.
Adore primary color dres with red chucks.
Besos
LaDama--We not only had to get under our desks for tornado practice, but also for nuclear bomb practice! Earthquakes was something we did not worry about in the area I grew up.
