On Tuesday this week, I wore this for a day of thrifting and I realized a problem with the reversible top. It's not long enough to be tucked in properly and expect it to stay and it's a bit too long for a true crop top.
The only thing new here would be the addition of a floral scarf for a belt and a better photo of the black espadrilles. The scarf shall return in a couple of weeks, if all goes according to plan.
On Wednesday, although I was basically sending out mid-term reports to my students, I tried to tackle the problem of what I might wear if I needed to dress up for some occasion. Given the current parameters of my wardrobe, below is the best I could do.
I don't really have a pair of heeled sandals that might have made this more dressy. You've seen the Picasso scarf on Rags before, but I piled on the necklaces. I think I have 4 here (the bracelet is one that was later draped around my neck). Two of these necklaces were gifts from Reva, and two were thrifted. One in particular is interesting to me as I think it looks like beads of cement. The clerk at the thrift tried to suggest that it was something called blue coral. Is blue coral a thing? Or something the clerk invented?
The backpack is of a different woven material than the skirt. The purple flip-flops were dug out of my closet from two years ago. The neon scarf was thrifted and at my neckline, I have a brooch made of an item I found on the street--a neon colored dragonfly shape. In the backpack will go all the accessories I'll need to look put together this weekend.
And here is a photo of my dearly beloved wearing his stilts with his slender legs crossed. He's been replacing the ceiling in one of our apartments in preparation for my mother moving in with us this fall sometime.
For the first time, we're really having to think through the health and medical needs of a "tenant" as we renovate and there are all sorts of considerations we've never pondered before.
What's on your agenda for the weekend? I'll be back on Monday with bedraggled versions of my weekend looks.
I can't wait to see how your white skirt survives the Ozarks but I think it'll be fine. Sounds like a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteAnd that all black outfit you're wearing? My absolutely favorite ever of yours. I love color, but monochrome neutrals done right thrills me.
Gracey--the white skirt did indeed survive, although I wore a beach towel as a sort of apron over it. I was chief cook and bottle washer.
DeleteAs for the black outfit, I was pleased to discover I could dress up if I had to.
I have found myself experimenting with my hair this past few months.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with keeping the white shirt pristine.
I think your going out outfit is very chic.
And wow - I love the stilts - although I would be terrified.
No plans for this weekend apart from owing the lawn, endless tidying , cooking and shopping.
Jane--Experimenting with hair is easier with longer hair. The white skirt made it through the weekend in pristine condition. My husband in years past has worn these stilts for 8 hours a day...he's good enough at it that he could be a clown.
DeleteI love your dressy outfit - I'm astounded at how well-thought-out your mini-capsule is! You make so many great outfits out of it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had long hair in such a long time - admiring your versatile looks.
Enjoy your vacation! This weekend, I'll be playing Ultimate Frisbee and hanging out with my friends/husband. Good times!
Sheila--the mini-capsule puts pressure on the accessories, which I too often forget that I own. How did you do at Ultimate Frisbee?
DeleteI love how you write...this is the best I could do...and the whole look is really fabulous and chic!! The best you could do is pretty darn good!! The thrifting skirt is such a versatile piece to have...excellent work!! I am on deadline for one publication I write for so I will be writing all weekend...I have four articles to get done. But I love Lake of the Ozarks...one of my favorites...enjoy some R & R for me too!!
ReplyDeletePam--thank you. I probably question myself unnecessarily when I have so few pieces to work with. Hope you were able to complete your articles. My work piled up on me while I was away.
DeleteYou look stunning in all black! I've just lost enough weight to get down into my goal size 10, but still a few pounds to go. Will show the results tomorrow. You look fabulous and how nice that your mama will be moving in with you!
ReplyDeleteDiane--thank you. And yeah for reaching that goal. I'm coming for a look see!
DeleteLove the skirt and backpack. My plans for weekend are to have a little bit of quiet time to myself as the boys are going to a Cub Scout lock-in. I might try to sort through my clothes, but am likely to end up not doing anything.
ReplyDeleteSandra--Since we've had grandsons living with us, DH and I have discovered that the trick of quiet time is being up in the middle of the night. Having time to not do anything is IMPORTANT!
DeleteI'm really enjoying seeing all your outfits for this challenge. I really like the "dressed up for an occasion" outfit - it's very streamlined & elegant.
ReplyDeleteStacey--I've had some DIY thoughts during the challenge, but I'm reluctant to start cutting or dying anything until closer to the end.
DeleteYou are really dedicated to your mini capsule challenge! I don't think I could do it! I would definitely cheat and take a pair of jeans. I would be thinking about poison ivy, snakes, ect.....
ReplyDeleteThe all black "dress up" outfit looks really nice.
Lisa--I suppose I "cheated" a bit by wearing a beach towel over everything for most of the weekend! Stayed safely clear of poison ivy and snakes.
DeleteYou're so creative! I love the second photo of you the best. I'm still mostly into black or black and white. I know, boring. Your DH is such a good man. He's what we call a keeper. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be in Monterey visiting my nephew who is in the Navy and studying Arabic at the Monterey Language Institute. I hope the weather is nice down there, not too hot.
Susan--Well, we share an interest with Chanel in black and white. And, yes, he IS a keeper. We used to joke that I should make him a pair of trousers to wear over the stilts.
DeleteMonterey is a lovely place to visit. It's been years ago, but I once spent a day at Point Lobos, hiking all by my lonesome.
I think your dressed up outfit looks great. You look super chic with the statement necklace(s) and your hair pulled back.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your vacation! At least you didn't have to think what clothing to pack, just how to accessorize them. Safe travels.
My weekend plans are completely fluid, but the Hubs did throw out the idea of actually doing something this weekend. Not sure what he intends, but he seemed to have some kind of idea. I hope to be surprised. ;)
MeganMae--You're right that I didn't have to think what I'd wear and I actually left one of my 6 pieces at home! I find that every so often, I definitely need a weekend without firm plans.
DeleteI'm really liking the all-black dressy outfit- you're inspiring me with all your different looks, Terri! I also like your long, wavy hair in all the various ways you style it - it looks healthy and natural. Handsome hubby, hope you don't mind me saying : >
ReplyDeletePatti--Thank you about the hair. Every so often, I have to fight the urge to go grey overnight. And, yes, I'm partial to my fella, but I included the pick of the crossed legs and stilts because I found it funny!
Deletei like what you put together for your dressy outfit. it's like a casual suit, minus the jacket. and i'm all for a huge bun!
ReplyDeleteglad you got the package...sorry it took so long :)
[oomph.]
Rebecca--Can't wait to try the gift, though it will likely be AFTER the challenge is over. And thank you for your generosity!
DeleteLove the stilts. My husband, too, is noted for his skill on a pair of stilts. One time when the director of nursing was retiring from the hospital where he works, her request was to be up on the stilts like she'd watched him throughout the remodel. There was alot of photo taking that day!
ReplyDeleteOh boy, grandchildren....mom.....take really good care of yourself, okay? Caregiving is exhausting!
Kitty--I am certain that our husbands have many things in common. He once tried to teach me and he's worked with the grandsons too, but it is very tiring. And I'm sure those photos were a hoot.
DeleteI wanted to give you a hug for your concern about the "caretaking." It does cross my mind.
That black outfit is great. Have you Googled Blue Coral? I was just in Hawaii and didn't see any, but could it be rare?
ReplyDeleteI was sorry to see that your husband's stilts were the construction variety. I hoped it might be another thing you guy do for fun - like the Tandem bicycle.
Where is your mother moving from? You seem to be getting close to having a family compound - sounds pretty good!
Beryl--I do NOT know how to use the stilts, but DH has indeed tried to teach me. My mother lives in the KC area...and our home is indeed large enough for a family compound, though she will be autonomous for all intents and purposes.
DeleteThe dressy outfit is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI love the side-plait but it has to be said - you look good in everything!
Jaljen--Aren't you sweet. I don't look good in everything and I have plenty of unpublished photos to prove it.
DeleteWhite denim can have a few smudges and be passable. I think your summer dress-up look is cool.
ReplyDeleteIs your apartment downstairs? My MIL stayed with us for awhile in a room in our basement, which was more private, but I wasn't happy about the fire escape situation.
RoseAG--the white denim survived! We live on the second and third floors of our home. The first floor is divided into apartments and one of them will be occupied by my mother who remains fairly autonomous. We do have some basement apartments too. They all meet code, luckily.
DeleteYour hair's looking really good, the side plait looks great.
ReplyDeleteWhy not chop a couple of inches off your top so it doesn't annoy you so much?
My weekend agenda involves spending the day with a particularly fabulously blogger, can't wait! x
Vix--Your long hair has been some of my inspiration for sticking to the growing process. Perhaps closer to the end of the challenge, I'll chop the top. Did you spend the weekend with C.? So dang jealous!
DeleteI am loving the side braid and your sweet skirt and back pack. Your sweetheart, that is great picture of him!
ReplyDeleteXXOO
Krista
Krista--when I put that backpack on, I actually thought of you and I knew you'd approve! I ought to send it on to you!
DeleteThe piling up of necklaces gets a blue coral thumbs up from me! I agree heels would make it dressier but the look is just fine with your flat sandals. The neon and the tribal print outfits really are great, Terri. I'd never think of them as "you" at first glance, but blink, and they really are. They add such a great wink of character to your outfits.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful weekend! the Citizen Rosebud
Bella--I keep trying to do color, but Krista definitely outshines me in neons.
DeleteON blue coral: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_coral
ReplyDeleteand an image of blue coral beads: http://bit.ly/NmlZvF
Whoa, after looking at that image you found, these might very well be unpolished blue coral. I love them.
DeleteOh, I LOVE your second look!! So classy! Perfect accessories!
ReplyDeleteJeannie--thank you! I was surprised to discover I had so many blue beads.
DeleteOooooh, Terri, I love that black on black outfit with the scarf tied at the waist. Great jewelry too.
ReplyDeleteLisa--thank you!
DeleteWow- he is able to do house projects on stilts? thats incredible!
ReplyDeleteMeri--working on suspended ceilings almost require the ability to walk stilts. Many union carpenters are able to do this. If not, they would be up and down ladders multiple times a day. These stilts extend to 3 feet above the floor.
DeleteI hope you have a wonderful weekend!!
ReplyDeleteCarolyn--It was one of those weekends with so much fun that now I'm exhausted!
DeleteI really love your dressy look and the piled-on necklaces. I think it's great that this challenge has you really exploring your accessories and hairstyles. I think a good message is we could all look at what we already own and make it work. I'm on a self-imposed shopping challenge, and am learning it is so hard to stop, even thrifting.
ReplyDeleteLynne--Although I've not put myself of a shopping challenge, this has inspired me to weed through my closet. I have a huge thrift donation and a huge pile of things for eBay!
DeleteYour dressy outfit is very elegant, love all the necklaces.
ReplyDeleteAnd I do like your hair up or in the side plait, it looks lovely.
I would really struggle to keep a white skirt clean, I am way too clumsy!
My weekend was fabulous, see the blog (and that of another dear blog friend) for details! Hope you had a wonderful weekend too. xxx
Curtise--I'm pretty clumsy too most of the time, so a beach towel became the first line of defense all weekend. And now, I'm off to visit your blog.
DeleteI really like the dressy outfit too. You look very elegant Terri.
ReplyDeleteI love the outfit with the black trousers, very chic!
ReplyDeleteAmazing. I am so in love with your necklace.
ReplyDeleteThat necklace is so gorgeous! I love all of the details!
ReplyDeleteI love that all black outfit with the layered necklaces... i have never heard of blue coral before but I googled it and it does exist :)
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of wearing a skirt casually instead of jeans; you look very appropriate to me. The dress outfit worked well, too, though I would probably go for metallic sandals rather than heels. I hadn't realised you had an apartment building, though come to think of it, the railings in your photos do call to mind that sort of balcony. I've never heard of using stilts to work on a ceiling, but I guess it must work. Your husband is very generous; a lot of men wouldn't care to have their mother-in-law come live with them, though I suppose her being in a separate apartment makes it a bit easier. I think I remember that one of your daughters and a grandson also live with you. Good job you have all that space!
