EBEW: Colorblocking on the 6-items Challenge

Who knew that color blocking would be this month's EBEW focus when I committed to doing the Six-Items Challenge.  The look below is a variation on what I had planned for the challenge, but I think I managed to include six different colors:  the yellow side of the reversible shell, a red belt, blue flip-flops, a green bracelet, and orange DIY bracelet, and a purple fan.

And to those who may be visiting from EBEW, a word about the Six Items Challenge.  I've committed to wearing variations on the same six items as part of Labour behind the Label's effort to educate consumers about the working conditions of garment workers in the "fast fashion" world.  I'll be wearing these 6 items only until August 9th.  This would be my 9th day of 40 in the challenge.  However, the challenge allows me to use all of the accessories I like.  And things are starting to become more interesting, or desperate, depending upon your point of view.

    1. Ki--I have these fans in six different colors. I think they started as party favors, but they came in handy today!

    1. Jane--thank you. Somehow, I feel more NEED for color as I age. It draws attention away from other things that are "faded."

  10. I actually really like this focus on a simple uniform with accessories because that's the style I most relate to. When people mix up outfits with lots and lots of pieces I get confused. Even the color blocking idea makes more sense to me here in this photo because it is introduced in bite sized pieces I can take in with interest without getting overwhelmed. I probably need style therapy or something as I seem to be so easily overwhelmed by all of the possibilities.

    1. Susan--Yes, I value function over appearance myself most of the time. Especially in the classroom, I like to keep a look simple and non-fussy, but it also needs to hold the attention of the audience. I see style as a "rhetorical problem"! I know when I first began blogging that there were days I wanted to wear everything at once.

  11. Great outfit, Terri! I love the yellow and purple together (you know I do!).

I am definitely finding that accessories are key with a limited wardrobe - I can't imagine doing only 6 items! Even 30 is very limited for me. Choosing a reversible top is such a great idea.

    1. Sheila--Yes, I've begun to work more with purple in my wardrobe because YOU rock it so well. And, personally, I've truly been fascinated by your 30 challenges.

    1. Patti--Thank you for the encouragement. I got the idea for the reversible top from a dress that I really, really wanted a few months ago...and was too much of a tightwad to buy.

  13. Terri, I love the outfit, and I really, really love the skirt. I am wearing a lot of brights, like you, in my new home in France - I think I may look a little out of place, but I don't care. Looking forward to seeing how your challenge/style journey progresses. :)

  15. That skirt is fantastic. It's so versatile. Even though you are doing a six item challenge, it doesn't seem like you are recycling the same look. You got skilz, girl! Hahaha!

  16. I think you're doing an amazing job so far. You've got a lot of variety and the accessories you're choosing pack a punch. I agree with Sheila that a reversible shirt is a good idea. I kept a reversible skirt simply because I knew it would give me two options with only one garment hanging in my closet.

    1. MeganMae--I don't currently own a reversible skirt, though that would have been a great item to have for the challenge. I am planning to try the fishnet trick before the 40 days are up.

thanks for your comment Terri! and in reply, actually I have 3 children and Cassie has 2 brothers! But I will NOT be making anymore raincoats for now :D

    1. Carolyn--If all my items were reversible, I would have endless possibilities. A reversible skirt would have been good, then I could have included a jacket of some sort.

Your raincoats look great, but I can see that they require a lot of work.

In general, I´m all for a challenge like this. I own very little clothes, but wear the same stuff from day to day.
But in this challenge, you are supposed to change it a bit every day, I suppose?
