And to those who may be visiting from EBEW, a word about the Six Items Challenge. I've committed to wearing variations on the same six items as part of Labour behind the Label's effort to educate consumers about the working conditions of garment workers in the "fast fashion" world. I'll be wearing these 6 items only until August 9th. This would be my 9th day of 40 in the challenge. However, the challenge allows me to use all of the accessories I like. And things are starting to become more interesting, or desperate, depending upon your point of view.
The fan is my favourite accessory! Kudos to you for taking up this challenge :-)
ReplyDeleteKi--I have these fans in six different colors. I think they started as party favors, but they came in handy today!
DeleteYou did it! I think that skirt is going to go a long way with your challenge. A great wardrobe choice, it goes with everything.
ReplyDeleteDarla
Darla--I knew the skirt would be invaluable, plus its of good quality and should maintain its shape throughout the challenge.
DeleteLove this outfit on you! You're wearing my favorite color, yellow, and that great skirt. It's hard to believe it's a challenge!
ReplyDeleteBeryl--Ah, you're sweet. Yellow is a bit of a challenging color for me, six items or no!
DeleteLove your last sentence: that just about sums it up, doesn't it!
ReplyDeleteApril--Yes. And I suspect that before I complete the challenge, there may be some desperate looks.
DeleteYou really suit colour. It's a tough challenge. Good Luck.
ReplyDeleteJane--thank you. Somehow, I feel more NEED for color as I age. It draws attention away from other things that are "faded."
DeleteYou inspired me to find out more about Labour Behind The Label and I'll do it this autumn in solidarity even if I'm not officially selected.
ReplyDeleteYou look fab.
Jaljen--Oh, it would be so cool if you did the challenge in September. It's too soon to say whether I will try it again, but it is a great cause.
DeleteThat skirt is a beauty. You're doing great, Terri, keep going! Accessorise to the max! xxxxx
ReplyDeleteCurtise--Many thanks for the encouragement. I still have a trick or two up my sleeve and one of them involves fishnets!
DeleteYes, that skirt is a beauty. I especially like that yellow and purple together Terri.
ReplyDeleteJoni--Thank you. One thing about challenge is that my commenters will struggle to come up with something new to say! Yikes.
DeleteCute outfit!! I am enjoying your challenge posts!!
ReplyDeleteTamera--thank you! And thanks for following when its day after day of the same thing!
DeleteI actually really like this focus on a simple uniform with accessories because that's the style I most relate to. When people mix up outfits with lots and lots of pieces I get confused. Even the color blocking idea makes more sense to me here in this photo because it is introduced in bite sized pieces I can take in with interest without getting overwhelmed. I probably need style therapy or something as I seem to be so easily overwhelmed by all of the possibilities.
ReplyDeleteSusan--Yes, I value function over appearance myself most of the time. Especially in the classroom, I like to keep a look simple and non-fussy, but it also needs to hold the attention of the audience. I see style as a "rhetorical problem"! I know when I first began blogging that there were days I wanted to wear everything at once.
DeleteGreat outfit, Terri! I love the yellow and purple together (you know I do!).
ReplyDeleteI am definitely finding that accessories are key with a limited wardrobe - I can't imagine doing only 6 items! Even 30 is very limited for me. Choosing a reversible top is such a great idea.
Sheila--Yes, I've begun to work more with purple in my wardrobe because YOU rock it so well. And, personally, I've truly been fascinated by your 30 challenges.
DeleteWay to go, Terri - you color-blocked as well as anyone with an unlimited closet. Including a reversible tank was genius.
ReplyDeletePatti--Thank you for the encouragement. I got the idea for the reversible top from a dress that I really, really wanted a few months ago...and was too much of a tightwad to buy.
DeleteTerri, I love the outfit, and I really, really love the skirt. I am wearing a lot of brights, like you, in my new home in France - I think I may look a little out of place, but I don't care. Looking forward to seeing how your challenge/style journey progresses. :)
ReplyDeleteGrunge-Queen--Keep rockin' the color while you can! I'm loving your new posts from the new locale.
DeleteThat skirt is fabulous and yellow really is gorgeous on you!
ReplyDeleteGracey--Yes, I agree that the skirt was a good pick. And though yellow may look alright, it's my least favorite color in the reversible shirt.
DeleteThat skirt is fantastic. It's so versatile. Even though you are doing a six item challenge, it doesn't seem like you are recycling the same look. You got skilz, girl! Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteLove the purple fan!
Lisa--the skirt truly is versatile and a good fit. And you're sweet for granting me the skilz. The rest of my wardrobe will feel like a candy shop after this.
DeleteI think you're doing an amazing job so far. You've got a lot of variety and the accessories you're choosing pack a punch. I agree with Sheila that a reversible shirt is a good idea. I kept a reversible skirt simply because I knew it would give me two options with only one garment hanging in my closet.
ReplyDeleteMeganMae--I don't currently own a reversible skirt, though that would have been a great item to have for the challenge. I am planning to try the fishnet trick before the 40 days are up.
DeleteVery cute, Terri...love the skirt and the pop of purple in your fan!! Great job!
ReplyDeletePam--the fan would have been more appropriate last week. Now we are dealing with humidity.
Deletelove it! very cool looking, casual, yet sophisticated.
ReplyDeleteLinda--I'm glad you think its sophisticated. I wanted my bits of color to be small so that it wouldn't look clownish!
Deletethe fan is a fantastic accessory and color!
ReplyDeleteMeri--the purple fan is one of six in my arsenal of potential accessories.
DeleteAnother great combo! I love the red belt for accent.
ReplyDeleteMelanie--thank you. the red belt was a departure from what I'd planned.
DeleteI'd never heard of this challenge before, but it sounds really interesting. I love the skirt you have on here too.
ReplyDeleteMorgan--Welcome to Rags! I hope you'll investigate the 6 Items challenge as it is a very worthwhile cause.
DeleteI tried to do the 30 for 30 challenge and failed dismally on day FOUR - so I'm very impressed by your commitment! Sarah xxx
ReplyDeleteSarah--I'm most worried that I'll quit about day 20. Cross your fingers that I keep coming up with ideas...like making dresses out of silk veils.
DeleteTerri: You carry a fan! I do too! - That skirt is sooo versatile; it looks like it has 9 or 10 colours.
ReplyDeleteNarda--I haven't counted the colors in the skirt, but it does have every color under the rainbow!
DeleteI love everything about this outfit...especially the yellow top. So many are wearing bright yellow today. I feel like I missed the memo. haha
ReplyDeleteLisa--Although I like yellow, I don't wear it very often. And thank you!
DeleteThe reversible top is going to be a life-saver, I think, in fact imagine the combinations if all your garments were reversible? Hmm,m food for thought...
ReplyDeletethanks for your comment Terri! and in reply, actually I have 3 children and Cassie has 2 brothers! But I will NOT be making anymore raincoats for now :D
Carolyn--If all my items were reversible, I would have endless possibilities. A reversible skirt would have been good, then I could have included a jacket of some sort.
DeleteYour raincoats look great, but I can see that they require a lot of work.
What a fun interesting challenge. I grew up pretty poor and I never had alot of things to choose from for dressing so I was forced to make a few things look like alot more. It's a challenge but its good for boosting creativity! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteDevyn--Like you, I don't recall having many clothes as a child either...which perhaps explains my addiction to thrifting. It's been curious to watch how the challenge affects my thinking.
DeleteYou're doing a great job, that skirt is a beauty. Great idea to choose reversible pieces! x
ReplyDeleteVix--Yes, the reversible top was something I found only the weekend before the challenge began. And it is something I would never have worn otherwise! I spent $2. on it.
DeleteThe yellow top is perfect with that colourful skirt! Just seen in your reply to Vix that it cost you $2! Bargain! And really like the blue flip flops and purple fan for accessories.
ReplyDeleteVeshoevius--thank you! I don't wear a lot of yellow so this challenge is pushing my limits a bit.
DeleteYou look great color blocking the hell out this outfit.
ReplyDeleteYour skirt is gorgeous, love the bright colors.
Besos
LaDama--Yes, I wish I had known about the Every Body Every WEar challenge BEFORE I selected my 6 items.
DeleteThe skirt was a good choice for this challenge. It's wonderful
ReplyDeleteRose--thank you. It was a choice between this one and a royal blue skirt. I think I made the right choice.
DeleteWell done and especially impressive since this is coming from a 6 garment capsule. You look fresh and colorful. The yellow is a dark horse, underestimated and a winner.
ReplyDeleteBella--Your encouragement is invaluable to me. Thank you.
Deletelove that skirt paired with the yellow!
ReplyDeleteonly wearing 6 itmes would mean I'd have to do laundry a lot more frequently than i presently do... i think i'll pass on the challenge!
Chic on the Cheap
LyddieGal--I've been doing handwashing and calling that good. I've thrown the white skirt in with towels. But, yes, the care of the clothing IS intensive.
DeleteSo many colors and done so well. The yellow is fresh and vibrant with the green leaves of the trees in the background.
ReplyDeleteJudith--yes, my deck is on the second story and its a bit like a treehouse!
DeleteI'm curious, what is the fabric of the skirt? Is the design woven or printed?
ReplyDeleteJacqueline--the design is woven!
DeleteIndeed, the skirt is great. You will succeed in the challenge. You have a wild imagination ; ).
ReplyDeleteIn general, I´m all for a challenge like this. I own very little clothes, but wear the same stuff from day to day.
But in this challenge, you are supposed to change it a bit every day, I suppose?
Good work!
Hi Terri!
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing well!
I have been catching up on your posts
Love those spiral hot dogs, so cool!
Maybe i will try this for Mr. D grandkids!
Love your challenge, i would not do it, it would drive me insane, plus wearing the same often not really me;)
But you are doing a great job!
Take care
Ariane xxx
Let me tell you that.... you shine in this outfit - these colors look so well together and most important make YOU stand out. One of my faves.
ReplyDeletei didn't realize the challenge was for 40 days! i think you picked a great skirt...the multi colors make it pretty versatile.
ReplyDelete[oomph.]
You did this brilliantly. Absolutely one of my favorite outfits, young as you do so well, colored but not over-bearing, pattern for interest.
ReplyDeleteThe purple fan is the best accessory ever! You are just too cool!
ReplyDeleteTerri, forgive me if this is a duplicate comment, but I confess I didn't really absorb your challenge until this post (crazy past few weeks). I don't know if I could do it, but I do think I *should* do it. I'm admirin' the hell out of you.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a major fan of the colour-blocking trend, but I love the yellow and red together; that skirt was a brilliant choice. I'm thinking you really do like a challenge, being part of the EBEW and the being visible thing AND trying to do it all with only six pieces of clothing. My hat's off to you!
