And, the commentary on this one is too good for words:
I've been sticking to the Six Items Challenge. Here's Wednesday's get-up, which was surprisingly "patriotic."
I'm wearing the new saltwater sandals I purchased new in March. The tote is a brand new LandsEnd that I found in a thrift store. The one drawback of this outfit was the ants that found their way to the tender parts as we sat on our blanket admiring the fireworks.
Today, it was back to the grindstone. And I wore these black slacks with a white tee. They look like yoga pants perhaps, but they are actually a pair of black slacks I've been dressing UP for the past two years. So, pairing them with my sneakers and the scarf tied in this bohemian style seemed a bit subversive.
I'm realizing that keeping six items in such close rotation requires attention to their care. I'm finding that I'm slipping into my nightgown earlier in the evening so the clothes can air. The white skirt was laundered today WITH a load of sheets. Five days down and 35 to go!
Here's hoping your Fourth was as festive as mine.
Oh my goodness...I am crazy about that last look! So chic, so fun, and so sassy!
ReplyDeleteI know I just said this in my last comment...but you are so very brave for taking on the 6 item challenge. It's very admirable of you.
Adrienne--I wouldn't even have tried the scarf if my hair had been in better shape. It remains to be seen whether I'm brave or a fool.
DeleteHappy Fourth! Looks like a lot of fun :)
ReplyDeleteSaltwater Sandals are on my list this summer. Will see if I get around to buying them, haha.
Really, really love the second look! I would destroy a white shirt before a week was up haha. Good luck!
Catie--Since I purchased my navy Saltwaters, I've seen another blogger with a silver pair that I covet. They are a reasonable cost for how long they last. And, yes, I have to be very conscious wearing the white tee.
DeleteLove the small town 4th of July celebrations. I live in the hustle and bustle of Seattle so I never go out to see the fireworks because it's so hard to get back home. When I was a kid I lived just outside the city and my community all walked together up to the ball field to watch the fireworks laid out on blankets.
ReplyDeleteA few years ago we drove to Mt Vernon, a small town north of Seattle, to watch fireworks there. It was so nice to enjoy it small town style again.
Love that second look on you with your hair tied up. Very individualistic, if that's a good word to use. ;)
Joni--The fireworks and the fair parade are definite pluses of small town life. My daughter and our two grandsons actually rode their bikes to a doctor's appointment a couple of days ago. Very little traffic to contend with here.
DeleteAnd thanks about the head wrap.
I woke up on the 4th sick as a dog! Spent the entire day in bed. You look good in that head scarf!!
ReplyDeleteOh, Oomph, I read about how you were sick. Hope you're feeling better now. And thank you about the head wrap. The last time I tried it a commenter said, I looked like I might be "sick."
DeleteI love that last look, too. I am totally going to be inspired by it when I dress today!
ReplyDeleteViktoria--Oh, it's nice to think I might have inspired someone. I know I find plenty of inspiration in the world of style blogs.
DeleteHappy Belated 4th of July! I love the red, white and blue combos, and the head scarf rocks on you! I'm not sure if I could do the Six Items Challenge, but I laud you for doing it! :)
ReplyDeleteGrunge-Queen--Oh, thank you for the "independence" day wishes. Won't France be celebrating soon?
DeleteHeadscarf look: A+
ReplyDeleteClaire--thank you. It's a big departure from my usual. I'm hoping this challenge puts a lot of my accessories to better use.
DeleteLoving the headscarf, Terri - it's a really fresh and stylish look. And the sneakers too - I like those to complete the outfit in a "subversive" (heee!) fashion. : >
ReplyDeletePatti--You would think I'd outgrow my need to feel subversive by the age of 58...!
DeleteHa ha, just watched that firework video with two of the boys. Too funny. I know your parting sentiments exactly.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the 6 piece challenge! Love the Saltwater Sandals. They've been on my thrift wishlist for a long time but I think I'm going to have to buy some at some point, as it appears that people never let them go.
Sandra--I knew that 2 and a half minutes was pressing it for most readers, but this is definitely the best part of a 25 minute show!
DeleteI kept looking for the Saltwaters in the thrifts and on Etsy and finally caved after two years of looking.
You are right! the commentary was wonderful and took me back to what it was like to watch fireworks as a child... Just delightful!
ReplyDeleteDiane--Often when people watch fireworks the oohs and aahs are a little too sexual, but I loved the innocence of my 7 year old grandson.
DeleteI can't get over how much I LOVE your second look and the headscarf! I don't do copycat outfits all that often, but I might have to snatch up this one! :)
ReplyDeleteThe Waves--feel free to copy! I know I've copies plenty of looks I've seen.
DeleteSmall town, small neighborhood July 4th celebrations are my favorites!! I really like the head scarf look!! Enjoy your grandchildren and don't worry about constant posting...you are doing a more important thing pouring your love into their lives!!
ReplyDeletePam--Yes, having grandsons around definitely changes things in the household. We'll see how I do with the posting, but I know it won't be on Monday, Wednesday, Friday!
DeleteThe saltwater sandals are very popular here in Brooklyn. I see them on both little girls and their moms! I really like their simple style. I have to say I am partial to your second outfit, you look amazing! If you do see a cobalt slip let me know. I need to take a look around some of the stores here but I have become obsessed with my Chanel jacket so I'm out there looking for fabrics! Glad you had a great 4th of July. XO, Jill
ReplyDeleteJill--I was really nervous when I ordered the sandals as they were actually a "youth" size and I wasn't sure they'd fit. And you can be sure I'm looking for the cobalt slip. I suspect that you are tinier than me. I'm following the progress of your Chanel jacket avidly.
DeleteYou are so brave to take up this challenge! All the best :-) I love these two outfits, ezpecially the second,
ReplyDeleteKi--thank you. I'm afraid my readers will grow bored by the end of the challenge.
DeleteNeat post, Terri.
ReplyDeleteSelfishly, I hope that you won't be too absent in your posting!
I love the final outfit, with the converse and the head scarf. Also enjoy your videos. The band sounds great. I played both videos at the same time, so the music was juxtaposed over the fireworks...really cool!
Lisa--If I'd been thinking I would have patched the music into the fireworks video! I'll do my best to post as frequently as my time allows. I'm kind of a stickler for reading more blogs and commenting regularly than I am about posting.
DeleteYou look great wearing that scarf!
ReplyDeleteThe entire outfit speaks to me as I do so love a splash of red.
Leslie--It was curious to me that 4 pieces of my 6 piece wardrobe turned out to be your favorite black & white. As I thought it through, I decided that it was the best palette for the accessories I own.
DeleteI saved the videos for my dull moment, but red + white looks fine on you.
ReplyDeleteThe scarf over the head looks Terr-iffic!
Mette--It's fine to save the videos, they are both fairly loud and fairly American. And, thank you!
DeleteI enjoyed the videos! I love your red sneakers very much. You look adorable in that last photo, like a little kid.
ReplyDeleteSusan--Well, you know the sneakers bring out a side of me that I like.
Deleteoh. my. gosh. I love the bandana look! Way to rock it like a distinguished woman ;)
ReplyDeleteErin--Ha, I don't think the sneakers make me look very "distinguished." I'll have to post a "distinguished" look one of these days.
DeleteBlogs tend to get pretty erratic in the summer- great to see what you'r eup to!
ReplyDeleteMeri--You're right that they get erratic. In fact, the past two Augusts have been very slow in blog-land.
DeleteYou look comfortable and chic. As I get older, I notice that anything that squeezes or pinches *anywhere* gets the ol' heave-ho right quick :P
ReplyDeleteI would have trouble with the more frequent laundering since I compete for washer time with two teenage girls and one husband that changes shirts several times a day :o
Lynne--Yep, comfort becomes a bigger priority with age. I remember the days when I was competing with my girls for laundry privileges...but at least they do their own. I recently went three weeks between laundry days!
DeleteLOOOVE the bandana, Terri! Sarah xxx
ReplyDeleteAh, thank you, Sarah. It's a thrill to have the caped crusader stop by.
DeleteI absolutely LOVE that second look. The scarf is so chic, I love the chucks for casualness. Way to work those accessories.
ReplyDeleteMeganMae--thank you. The look was a pure accident.
DeleteI love the bohemian hair wrap - it's like you should have a long cigarette holder and a foreign high-born sounding accent!
ReplyDeleteNarda--Hm, no cigarette holders among my accessories. And if you watched the second video, you heard my voice--not high-born at all.
DeleteLove the small town band! Very patriotic with the Rosie the Riveter head wrap. Having two grandsons should be easier than just the one, I hope. You know it's going to keep you busy! I am impressed with you being able to do 5 days of this challenge. I made peach cobbler today and have to dig out the bigger pants until peach cobbler season is over, so I would have flunked out after the first 4 days.
ReplyDeleteBeryl--It actually IS easier with two. And, oh, the peach cobbler has my mouth watering!
Deleteyou look fab...... happy 4th!!
ReplyDeleteYoung at Heart--thank you!
DeleteAre you planning to post all the items together at the end?
ReplyDeleteI love the second outfit. And hope you have lots of fun with your family.
Jane--I probably will do a recap...although I already know that I'll be chomping at the bit to wear anything but these 6 items. In fact, I may never wear these 6 items again!
DeleteLoved the fireworks clip, especially the repeated "Is that all?" What fun!
ReplyDeleteApril--Yes, the video was edited to start and end on the grandson's repeated question. I'm glad you appreciated it.
DeleteYou must be so much fun to hang out with...
ReplyDeleteLisa--I think the secret of the fun is the large and rambunctious family. Sometimes it seems like pure chaos.
Deleteyou are amazing that you're doing this six item challenge!!! you look fab in red, BTW. i especially love that head scarf.
ReplyDeleteoh, and BTW, yes the 4th of july parade was Princess Sparkles' first one. she loved it and even had the princess wave down!
http://spinning-threads.blogspot.com
Claire--I walked in a couple of parades with my daughters when they were little. They were "robots" though and didn't need to wave!
DeleteI love that head scarf on you - it recalls another era. The whole outfit is perfect. I also love how the second clip starts out "Is that all?" and ends with "Is that all?" Hilarious! Beautiful snippets of a 4th of July in the USA. Six pieces, 35 days? I'd need a prescription to get through it! Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteMelanie--I shall probably dig a deep hole for these six items when the challenge is over and NEVER wear them again!
DeleteI love the dressed-down black pants look! That headscarf looks amazing. This six-item challenge sounds really tough - or maybe I'm just soft, haha.
ReplyDeleteStacey--I suspect that the challenge WILL be tough before its over, but on paper at least I've had 40 styling ideas.
DeleteBeen catching up on some blog posts this morning.....fun. The fire in Colorado Springs caught my attention b/c I use to live there. Is your step daughter home ok? As for the 6 item challenge....what a challenge. I could never do it! I love the sneaky reversible tank :-), but I do wonder why you'd choose 2 long sleeved tops??? just curious. And I certainly do understand about erratic posting.
ReplyDeleteLinda--Yes, the step-daughter's home is okay, but I think they were kept out of it for a week or more. And yes, before I found the reversible tank, I wondered whether I could come up with six items. I chose the long-sleeved because I'm mostly air-conditioned in the summer.
DeleteI like how you are wearing that scarf - i have a zillion scarves and am not daring enough with them - i have to try this look.
ReplyDeleteSince i went to a US school, we always celebrated the 4th. However I haven't in a loooong time, but we still enjoy the fireworks that can be seen launched from the US Ambassador's home.
The black white and red outfit is amazing. I only just realised that you are doing the Six Items Challenge too, will be following your progress.
ReplyDeleteI adore the Bohemian outfitvthe most, you look great in headdress.
ReplyDeleteI miss BBQs, been raining all freaking summer here.
Brsotes
I love the look of the scarf and black trousers - the outfit has a cool 'vibe' and is really stylish - fab way to go for the rock chick feel x
ReplyDeletei love the last look:) you look adorable!
