Visible Monday: The Lake Edition

I did it--made through the weekend with my 6-Item wardrobe.  The chair at left is the secret of my success.  If I wasn't sitting on it, I had it wrapped around my waist in the kitchen, apron-style, cooking for the crew of 7 adults and two children, all family this time.

Friday's look was a departure from what I had planned.  And the look had to be re-created at home as I was the photographer for the weekend and failed to snap a photo of me in my swimsuit and skirt combo.
Here's how I looked this morning--a little worse for the wear in Friday the 13th's garb.

The suit--a Nike's swimmer suit is likely 10 years old and has no foundation, as it's designed for swimming laps, which I sometimes do when we are at the lake.  I swam no laps this time between keeping track of the grandsons and cooking and washing dishes.

On the plus side though, I have no burn to recover from.

Below left, you'll see what I planned to wear Friday.  My photographer suggested the belt become a turban and I have to confess that it somehow looks more lake appropriate.
Both the scarf and the mustard shoes were thrifted,
although I know I saw the shoes in Old Navy just this past spring.

Below is how I looked most of Sunday, although the photo wasn't snapped until we arrived home.  The sarong was an experiment that probably needed the invisible bra I purchased in May.

And now if you'll indulge the grandmother in me...a few of my favorite photos from the weekend.

The grandson visiting from Montana with a "hairy" ear.

The live-in grandson discovering the uses of a short paddle.

Oldest daughter actually RELAXING for a change.

Boys and their toys.

Visible Monday is open to all and you can post your look at Patti's Not Dead Style.  And now I'm off to catch up on a weekend of missed blogs.

  1. I love how you are working all these looks from just a few pieces, Terri. The sarong is so inspired, and I really am liking the head scarf look. Adorable grandsons!

    1. Patti--the scarf is so sheer that the sarong idea was definitely an afterthought. I'm beginning to think I should wear turbans more often.

  2. Well, I knew that if anybody could pull it off, you could! I especially like the sarong-over-slacks and the scarf belt. Wonderful looks! (And thank goodness for beach towels, eh?)

    1. Anne--I like the sarong too, but I'm a little concerned about how sheer it is. There's a lot of places I couldn't wear it.

  7. Great photos! How cool that you were able to do both color blocking and a 6-items challenge. Was it for a week or longer? I have done it for a month and each time, it got to be truly painful, LOL!

    1. Jeanine--the challenge is for 30 days! And, yes, I'm beginning to reach the painful stage. We're having 100+ degree weather and my list of possible outfits features layered tees next! Yikes!

I am adoring that turban! So chic and glamorous. And the sarong top is really flattering on you. Did you wear a black bandeau underneath?

    1. Adrienne--Your trip to Tahoe looks like it might have been more relaxing. I suspect that if the photo was better with the sarong, you might see the shape of my tan. A black bandeau (like Tori's suit) would have been excellent.

  13. I cannot believe you're getting all these looks from SIX items. Majorly impressed. I read about the challenge and I thought "no way" for me. I'm having a hard enough time doing a 30x30 with very relaxed rules. New clothing keeps appearing and I can't let it just sit there -- must wear!

    1. Anne--Well, I'm only halfway through the challenge, but this may be the LAST of the challenges I ever take on. I'll have a renewed appreciation for the rest of the wardrobe when I'm finished.

    1. Lynne--There will be another 6-item challenge in September if you're REALLY interested. I'm not having to go to the office this summer so it has been easier...but it would definitely be a challenge during a work week.

  18. I LOVE both of the scarf wraps. They definitely jazz up the wardrobe. I love a scarf tied into a turban or headwrap. It felt very odd when I first started doing it, but I really like the additional use for the scarf and the benefit of having my short hair tied back.

    1. Megan--I realized one sleepless night this week that I have three silk veils that I think could be fashioned into a dress! Don't know whether I'll try that during the challenge or not. And yes, in the heat we've been having, it is hard to care about one's hair.

  21. Photographer was right about the scarf. Very snappy. Looks like a great time was had by all. The boys with their toys by the way look just like most men who ride the bus these days - all their noses buried in their little toys.
