I've been letting the hair grow since I subconsciously decided to retire (could have saved myself months of agony if my hair would have explained this me). The goal is to grow it long enough to have a waist length braid and every time, just as I'm about to grow exasperated enough with the tangles to cut it off, some stray person will deliver a compliment to me about it. This past week, I wore it up in a bun and someone said they didn't recognize me, which means that the long hair is slowly becoming a part of my signature look. The last time it was this long, I had just returned to the Midwest, my marriage in shambles, and my father explained I would need to cut it if I expected to find a professional position. I took his advice and went to a stylist for the cut. She was African-American and very, very reluctant to cut it. I was gratified to see so much long and natural hair on the fashion week runways and especially glad to see braids a time or two.
The sunflowers are blooming in our garden, in the ditches along the highway, and in the alley behind a church a block from our house. DH has even roasted the first batch of seeds.
While this photo may not be very flattering, You'll see the basic message, I took away from fashion week. White shirting, and black skinnies, and even a pair of faux Birkenstocks. I NEVER leave the house in the skinnies, but DH loves them and I oblige.
This year, for the first time, I took a serious approach to NY Fashion Week, watching over 65 of the shows and taking notes! That's part of the reason I didn't blog last week. I caught myself walking around the house in the models' pose, swinging my arms behind and firmly planting one foot in front of the other. I suspect that I had a more comprehensive picture of the shows, thanks to Mercedes Benz and Motorola's sponsorships, than if I had actually gone. It's hard to decide which of the designers I most prefer. I think for the first time, I realized that there are different designers for different demographics and aesthetic sensibilities, but I watched enough to get a sense of their signature styles. And I pondered what would filter down, two years from now, to those in my neck of the woods. The white leather moto jacket? The crop tops? The flowy pants? The socks with sandals? I see that last one pretty regularly already.
Did you watch any of the shows? Did you see anything that you MUST have?
I'm curious to know
